Montessori Middle School: Adolescent Years (Ages 12–15)

Preparing Adolescents for Life Beyond Childhood

What does Montessori provide for the adolescent that other middle schools don’t?

The Adolescent Program, for students ages 12–15, is designed to support the unique developmental changes of adolescence. This transitional period raises questions like: Who am I? How can I contribute to society? Montessori recognized this stage as one of rapid growth, and the program provides a space for students to explore their identities, passions, and responsibilities.

Built on the Montessori principle of “valorization,” the program fosters a sense of community where students learn the value of their contributions. With a balance of academic exploration, practical life skills, meaningful relationships, and a connection to nature, the Adolescent Program equips students with the tools to thrive as confident, capable young adults.

Combining academics with real-world experience

At QI Montessori Middle School (QIMMS), students focus on finding their place in society through a strong academic curriculum complemented by hands-on, community-valued projects. The program fosters critical thinking, creativity, maturity, and life skills, helping students work collaboratively and live interdependently.

The year begins with an Odyssey trip to build individual and group skills, and students engage in service projects that apply their talents to benefit the community. The rigorous, well-rounded curriculum addresses the social, emotional, physical, and intellectual needs of young adolescents, guiding them toward responsible citizenship.

QIMMS graduates leave as independent, capable learners, well-prepared for high school.
